E. Milton Kleven, age 90 of Edina, died April 11, 2013. He was a Minneapolis Public School Teacher for 34 years; a Hardwood Floor Contractor for over 60 years; a retired Navy Reserve Commander with 33 years of service; and was a friend of Augsburg College. Preceded in death by wife, Dorothy; and 6 brothers and sisters. Survived by children, Bruce (Maren), David (Barb), Barbara (Zane) Birky, and Diane (Philip) Larson; grandchildren, Liv (Sean), Erik (Krystle), Mark (Samantha), Kirsten (Chris), Andy, Sarah (Peter), Brian, and Andrea; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Evan, Emma, Nora, and Isaac; sister, Kay Oyen; brother, Azor (Joyce); nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Normandale Lutheran Church.
I am so sorry to hear the loss of Milton. It was a pleasure to meet him. How he looked so much like Todd’s dad when I first met him. Such a sweetheart. Please know that our prayers are with you. I am sure Gwen and Larry Bush will be with you, they are treasured friends to have. Losing a parent is very difficult, but will be rewarding when we get to connect with with again. Mr. Kleven was my 5th grade teacher. My first male teacher. All the girls including me, were in love with him. He was so good looking and kind.
After I graduated school and married, he happened to come to the dry cleaners where I worked to drop off some clothes. We recognized each other instantly. It was fantastic to see him!
I am so sorry that he passed. Know this, he made a strong impression on me! He was the kind of father figure that I needed.
Hello, I think you are thinking of my Dad’s brother, Luther Kleven, who was a teacher at Shingle Creek. Milton Kleven was a high school math teacher. Both men were wonderful teachers.
