Matt opened Matt’s Bar in 1954 and will forever be remembered in Minneapolis History as the true creator of the original Jucy Lucy.
His family would like to extend thanks to Jodi, his nurse, Fairview Southdale Hospice, and all who provided kind care for Matt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Sorry to hear of the passing of your father Cheryl. It is so touching that it also happened on the day the President of the United States went to his restaurant. Wish I could make it to his service but will think of you and your family. Deepest sympathy, Lynn Swanson Schlink
I worked at Matts in 1962/1963. Matt was the best boss I ever had. He treated his employees like family. I respected his work ethic so much. Fond memories of making hamburger patties in the basement, the smelt fries and the Christmas buffets he put on for his customers. His legacy will live on every time a Jucy Lucy is ordered. My sincere sympathy to all of you.
My sincere sympathy on the passing of Mr. Bristol. Although I did not know him, Matt’s has been part of my family’s life for almost 50 years. When my kids were little they delighted in telling their friends they were regulars at a bar. We’ve toasted the passing of loved ones, celebrated birthdays, and introduced friends to the joys of the Jucy Lucy. Wishing you all warm memories to comfort you and strength for the difficult days ahead.
