Janet Marie (Berkland) Benson, age 77, of Bloomington, passed away October 26, 2014. Survived by husband of 53 years, Charles; daughters, Andrea Benson (Scott McLaughlin) and Kara Barrow (Justin); grandchildren, Sophia, Isabel, Brendan and Julian; sister, Muriel Cooper and many other family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Samuel Berkland.
Born in Inwood, Iowa, Janet moved to Minneapolis to attend the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1959. She and Charles made their home in Edina for 45 years, and raised their daughters there. As a nurse, Jan worked most recently at Edina Care Center, retiring in 1999. She also worked at Fairview and Methodist hospitals, as a school nurse in Germany, and as a clinic nurse in Hawaii.
Memorial service Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Woodlake Lutheran Church, 7525 Oliver Ave. S., Richfield. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday, Oct.29, 2014, from 5:00 -7:00 PM at Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel, 6527 Portland Ave. S., Richfield, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Memorials preferred to Woodlake Heritage Endowment Fund.
Charles, I did not have the opportunity to meet your wife Janet but knowing you and reading her accomplishments, she must have been a wonderful lady. My heart goes out to you and your family. She will be missed by all of you.
