Callistus D. “Cal” Ehlert

October 14, 1932 - July 23, 2016


Callistus (“Cal”) Dennis Ehlert was born on October 14, 1932 in Breckenridge, MN to Harry and Frances (Nordick) Ehlert. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1950. He was drafted into the United States Army in February 1953, during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in February 1955 at the rank of Sergeant. Prior to being drafted in the Army and afterwards until 1969, he farmed in the Breckenridge area. In late 1969, he moved to the Twin Cities and began working at Control Data Corporation in Bloomington. He worked in the Government Systems Division at Control Data in the plating shop and doing maintenance until 1990.

On April 18, 1970, Cal married Frances Kosobud at St. Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church in Michigan, ND. The couple first lived in an apartment in Richfield, MN. In 1971, they bought a house in Bloomington, MN where they lived for 32 years. They sold the house and moved to the Lake Shore Drive Condominiums in Richfield, MN in 2003.

Cal passed away on July 23, 2016 at the Edina Care Center in Edina, MN. He is survived by his daughter Christy and son-in-law Vincent Ehlert-Mackie, Eden Prairie, MN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife Frances; parents Harry and Frances; brothers Gerhard, Victor and Harry; and sister Rosemary Miranowski.

Cal’s hobbies included family history, traveling the United States, gardening, home improvement projects and keeping up with current events. He was a very special person to many and will be deeply missed.
