November 25, 1931 - September 3, 1950
Sergeant Eugene William Yost, missing in action in Korea is coming home after 68 years. Beloved son, brother and uncle, age 19, died in combat in the 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division in the vicinity of Kumbbwa-dong on September 3, 1950. Also deceased are his parents, Clifford and Cecelia; siblings Hazel, Roger, Darlene, Dorothy and Mable. He is survived by sisters, Cecelia, Elsie, Shirley and Phyllis and numerous nieces and nephews. Eugene entered the Army in 1949 and was assigned to the 8th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. His patrol was overrun by the NKPA Division North Korea. By morning numerous soldiers were missing including Eugene, many others were unidentifiable. Eugene was originally listed as missing in action and designated as deceased in December 1953. His body was interred in a missing in action location in Hawaii and 68 years later he was identified through DNA records. Through the persistent efforts of Eugene’s family, he has finally been identified and at long last is coming home to be laid to rest.
