Laura G. Cichy - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

May 19, 1933 - January 5, 2019

Laura (Laurie) Gladys Cichy, 85, of Richfield, died Saturday, January 5, 2019, at N C Little Memorial Hospice in Edina.

She was born May 19, 1933 in Leaf Valley Township near Millerville in Douglas County the daughter of Kenneth and Justine Lindelien. She also had a brother who died at birth. She attended and graduated from Hewitt High School.

She married her beloved husband Richard (Dick) Cichy in Bertha in 1953 and they remained married until his death 59 years later. Laurie and Dick settled in Pelican Rapids where Dick became a rural postal carrier as well as a real estate broker and lakeshore developer. Laurie was a CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) both in Fergus Falls and later in Edina.

She and Dick were blessed with a son, Gary, in 1956. After Dick retired, they moved to Richfield in 1980 to be closer to Gary, also keeping an apartment in Pelican Rapids for many years. Dick and Gary were the focus of Laurie’s life, and they all enjoyed many times together, including many trips to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Most years, Dick and Laurie also loved going to the State Fair together.

She also enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles and movies, as well as yard work at their lake cottage. Music and dancing were a special enjoyment to her. In her younger years, she often played piano while her father played his fiddle at area “get-togethers”, and also accompanied the glee club in high school.

As her parents grew older, she was very dedicated to caring for them in their later years.

She was a smiling, happy person with a gentle soul, and was loved by her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by sisters-in-law Isabel Miller and Emily Reichel, and a brother-in-law, Larry Cichy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Kenneth and Justina (Stich) Lindelien; a son, Gary; and infant twins Dennis and Diane.

In her own words, she will be laid to rest next to Dick and Gary, her cherished loved ones, in Lakewood Cemetery “no longer apart” and “together forever”.
