January 11, 1963 - October 10, 2019
Christopher Charles Schlechter was the fifth child born to Henry and Doris Schlechter on January 11th, 1963. He was baptized into the Christian faith at home on March 3rd, 1963. He grew up in Richfield, MN and attended Richfield Public Schools. He attended Sunday School and Worship Services at Richfield Lutheran Church. Chris worked at Opportunity Partners and later at Metro Resources until he retired in 2018.
Some of the things Chris enjoyed doing was spending time with family and friends, especially on his birthday. He always enjoyed going out for coffee, particularly at Perkins Restaurant. He loved being outdoors spending time in God’s Creation. During his younger years he helped his Dad, Henry, with the vegetable garden and distributing the produce to all the neighbors. He liked going to his Uncle’s farm, and in later years, he looked forward to attending Edenwood Day Camp in Eden Prairie. Chris was a Twins and Vikings fan and was even able to attend some Twins games. He also liked watching cartoons and going to movies. Another interest of Chris’s was music, especially listening to country and inspirational songs. He enjoyed the music sessions at the Tyler Group Home and the monthly visits from his dog friend, Walter.
The family will be forever grateful for the care that Chris received from the staff at the group homes where he lived throughout his life. Lastly, Chris enjoyed making people smile. He especially liked the smiley face symbol, just looking at it helps to brighten our day and reminisce about Chris.
One thing that gave Chris joy, hope, and happiness was knowing that Jesus loved him and died on the cross to take away his sins and prepare a home for him in heaven. One of his favorite songs was, “Jesus Loves Me.” Here’s a simple prayer that makes us think about Chris’s optimistic outlook on life, “Dear Jesus, knowing you enables me to simply smile, even in the face of adversity. Use me to brighten the lives of others I encounter in my daily life, and may I always be willing to share my happiness in knowing You as my Savior. Amen. Lord. Amen.”
Chris fell asleep in Jesus on October 10th, he will be missed by his family and friends, but we thank God for giving us Chris for 56 years and we look forward seeing him in heaven.
Chris’s body will be laid to rest at Pleasant View Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Burnsville, MN to await the resurrection at the end of the age.
