Naomi E. Melzer, age 89, of Bloomington. Preceded in death by husband, Bud; children, Teresa “Terry”, Jeff. Survived by daughter, Judy Melzer; grandchildren, Richard, Jeramie, Samantha, Travis; great-grandchildren and sister, Ruth Helgeson.
Mom grew up on a farm in Sedan, MN with her three sisters and one brother; mother, Minnie and dad, Oscar. I loved to listen to her talk about her days on the farm. She would talk about the hard work and hated cleaning the chicken coop. She had many happy memories of growing up on a farm. She left the farm to live in the Cities and go to secretarial school. She met my dad on a blind date. My dad was drafted into the Army, spending 2 years in Korea. They wrote back and forth to each other frequently. They married when he returned home. I found her letters while moving her belongings into my house. I would read dad's letters to her before she went to bed. Mom had many hobbies, making quilts that she would donate, making clothes for us kids when we were young. She loved to read, do puzzles, crochet and knit. Her mother would tell her, "Busy hands are happy hands." Mom was still living independently, driving and bowling on a league. She would play cards with her sister, Ruth. We went fishing every summer at Lake Minnewaska and she was very determined to catch more than one fish before leaving her spot. Mom had her routine of taking walks 2 times a day, and a leg exercise routine she would do before she got up. Mom had a sudden cognitive decline and was diagnosed with brain cancer. Mom was unable to return to her condo safely, so I moved her to my house to care for her. Hospice was coming to the house due to her terminal diagnosis. Mom was a very strong, independent, giving and loving person. She loved to visit with her grandchildren and great-grandkids. She will be dearly missed............ "I love you Mom." Judy

I am so sorry about the loss of our wonderful Naomi. She was full of energy, warmth, and kindness that she shared with everyone, with an extra dose for her family. Naomi always amazed me with her multitude of interests and pursuits–reading, exercise, travel, knitting, quilting, jig-saw puzzles, fishing, cards, and much more. My condolences to her daughter, sister, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I know she will be missed by all of her friends and family.
With love from Naomi’s niece and goddaughter,
Kathryn
Beautiful memorial for your mother Judy. She will certainly be missed !!!
To Judy & family: with sympathy to all of you. Your mom-grandma was a very nice lady. The last time I spoke to her was when she called to say Bud had passed away. I and my brother Brad Melzer have a lot of good memories when your folks would come down to our farm at Hanska. , wow that was long ago, but we were always excited to see them. So always know she will never be forgotten. Dwight & Brad Melzer, New Ulm.
It,s been a little over a month since mom passes. Like has been very trying and difficult to get along without her. I called her daily to check up on her just to ask her “whats for dinner” and what did you do today. Mom would always say I always stay busy with my hobbies. Reading, quilting, knitting and puzzles. She never complained of being bored or have any complaints as a rule. I started back to work today and it was weird cause when I got home I picked up the phone to call mom because that is what I would do everyday. She would always say “ thanks for checking in with me”. About that time of day would be her happy hour as she called it. A glass of Chardonnay work on her puzzles then eat at 6:00-6:15. mom was very structured in her routine until I came around like at the lake and push dinner to 7-8 still light out and need to keep fishing. She was always cool with that. Mom was a very easy loving person to be around. rarely complained and I think she had some knowledge of her illness and not telling anyone. That’s how she was, not to worry me. Feels good to vent on this site and hope others will follow suit and put in some thoughts or memories about my mom. Would love to read some. Judy
