Donald was born October 20, 1930, to Margaret and Leland Fashant in Annandale. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Veronica; their children, David (Crystal), Daniel (Anne), Jerry (Jean), Michele Fashant, and Suzanne (Mark) Nieson; 13 Grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Rachael, Sarah, Kaia, David, Jessica, Julie, Jackson, Brianna, Nicholas, Brooke and Britta; 7 Great Grandchildren, Ryker, Carson, Skip, Henry, Cydney, Colton, and Levi; sister, Phyllis Matson and sister in law, Betty Fashant. Preceded in death by parents Margaret and Leland Fashant; twin brother Deane, and brother Jerry, and grandchildren Matthew and Joshua.
Don had a long career in road construction starting out as a surveyor when he was a teenager and later operating D-9 bulldozers and other heavy equipment. He spent almost 43 years at MnDOT in various roles and became a recognized expert in tunnels and drilling. He finished his career as a consultant for the Light Rail tunnels under the MSP airport. Don enjoyed golfing, fishing, and Vikings football. He was active in coaching Richfield Cub football for 20 years, and his teams won many championships. His family will always remember his love of sports and intensity in everything he did. He was memorable to all that met him.
Private Mass of Christian burial at Assumption Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial tributes be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice in honor of the deceased.

I am sorry to read of Don’s death; I would imagine that having so many years together makes it even harder to lose him, and the pandemic has been so isolating as well. It’s a great picture of him (taken a few years ago perhaps) and that fits with remembering loved ones at their best. Your family is very much in my heart and thoughts.
