Robert S. “Bob” Deuchar

July 10, 1945 - June 2, 2021

Robert S. “Bob” Deuchar, age 75, passed away peacefully at Walker-Methodist Nursing Home in Minneapolis on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 10, 1945 to Elsie (Melius) and Ernest Deuchar and was raised in Grand Rapids, MN. After graduating from Central High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Army (1963-1964) and in 1965, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy where he served two active tours in Vietnam as a Radioman speaking 5 different languages.

While stationed in Rota, Spain, Bob met the love of his life, Josefa “Pepi” Silva. They married June 30, 1968 and in 1969, they welcomed their first child (Teresa.) A year later, their son (David) was born. Bob continued to remain a dedicated United States Navy man, earning several commendations, medals and recognitions during his military career of 23 years. In order to spend more time with his loved ones, Bob retired honorably from the Navy in 1986 moving his family from Rota, Spain to Bloomington, MN where he began working for the US Postal Service.

Bob was an outstanding marksman who excelled in competition skeet shooting competitions all over the United States and Europe. He was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors and would frequently camp, fish, deer hunt, grouse hunt and duck hunt with family and friends all over Spain, Scotland, Germany, Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Those who knew Bob, knew full well that Bob was able to identify an incalculable number of waterfowl species just by their call or the unique sound their wings made cutting across the wind as they flew overhead. Bob loved his dogs as well; Lucy (still with us keeping mom company), Canella and Lady (who are surely with dad helping him flush out and retrieve birds.)
Bob was a wonderful dancer and loved dancing with his beautiful wife “Pepi” to Spanish Salsa music and tunes from the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Bob would frequently be found fixing, building, designing, modifying and retrofitting anything mechanical. Bob’s mechanical skills, mathematical prowess and his passion to help others was unmatched but Bob always managed to put his family first and made sure that his loved ones were always taken care of. Bob will be forever in our hearts and he will truly be missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother; Elsie (Melius) and father; Ernest Deuchar and his brother; David James Deuchar. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; “Pepi”, his daughter; Teresa (David) Harris, son; David (Leah) Deuchar, grandchildren; Tiara (Matt) Elg, Anthony Deuchar, Elena Deuchar, David Harris Jr. and great-grandchildren; McKenzie Elg and Nolan Elg who affectionately referred to Bob as, “Papa.” Bob is survived by a host of friends and family both near and far overseas whom he truly cherished and greatly loved.
