Elaine A. Roth - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

January 27, 1922 - October 22, 2022


Elaine Alice Roth, age 100, formerly of Richfield, died on October 22, 2022. Born on a Century Farm near Godahl, MN (if you are not familiar with the area, Godahl is near Butterfield). She graduated from business college in Mankato. After working for Lutheran Brotherhood in Minneapolis, she enlisted in the Army and trained in Commerce, TX. She was personally welcomed into the Service by Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the President. She was assigned to the Women's Air Corps (WAC) at Hill Field, Ogden, UT, and later promoted to the rank of 1st Sergeant. Discharged from service in Oakland, CA followed. She was awarded 3 medals upon discharge.

She met George Roth, Organist and Chaplain's Assistant. They were engaged in 1946, and wed in 1947. After 62 years of marriage, George passed in 2009. She recently called him "My one and only."

Elaine worked as an "Avon Lady", a Children's Choir Director, Waitress, Child Caregiver, Stenographer, and Church Secretary (14 years). She retired in 1989. Elaine sang in church choirs for 24 years, sewed, crocheted, embroidered, did needlepoint, baked, did water aerobics, practiced calligraphy, supported and corresponded with missionaries in New Guinea and Venezuela, and toured Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Elaine was honored for her service in a special event at Woodlake Lutheran Church, Richfield MN. She was featured in America's Greatest Generation, a study honoring WWII Veterans.

Elaine is survived by children, Cheryl Oestermeyer, John Roth (Diane) and Christine Manz; grandchildren, Jon Oestermeyer (Sarah), Suzanne Galdun (Paul), Alexis Oneca, Justin Roth (Beth Ann), and Spencer Roth (Caitlin); great-grandchildren, Jake, Sofie, and Luke Oestermeyer, Cohen and Toby Oneca, Harry and Emilia Galdun, Benjamin and Vivienne Roth, Juna and Rennen Roth. Preceded in death by parents, Axel and Petra Flogstad; sister, Ruth Hoffman; brothers, Lloyd and Stanley Flogstad; and son-in-law, Kenneth Oestermeyer.
