Richard “Dick” Rindal of Minneapolis passed away comfortably and peacefully in his sleep January 3, 2023 due to heart complications. He was born March 1931 and would have turned 92 years of age this coming March. He is now with his beloved wife, Marie, and our Heavenly Father to rest eternally. Richard was a mentor and a friend to so many people. He held active membership with many wonderful fraternal and charitable organizations including the Minnehaha Masonic Lodge, the Minneapolis Zuhrah Shriners, the Scottish Rite, the Shrine Horsemen since 1976, and with the Desert Caballeros ride in Wickenburg, Arizona as well as the Caballeros Del Norte ride in Minnesota for 40+ years. Dick was an avid and skilled Horseman and devoted much of his life’s passion to the betterment of the Minnesota horse community. He would oftentimes come across someone with an interest in horses and he would work to encourage and develop their interest. He was known to reach into his personal collection of tack and riding apparel to make sure that a newer rider had the proper attire and was properly equipped to ride their horse successfully. Dick was also an avid reader with an encyclopedic knowledge and memory to recall extensive details about people, places, and happenings. Dick was always very proud that he worked for Viking Safety in St. Paul from his mid-20s through his mid-70s. Dick and Marie were married for 69 years and devoted their lives to their friends and family, giving of themselves always with kindness. When their two daughters were each in middle school, Dick was a volunteer coach for the girls’ softball league in Richfield during the very early years of local girls sports. He continued to develop, build, and promote girls’ softball in the Richfield community for 12 years. Dick and Marie were loved by many and will be missed greatly. Throughout their lives together, they enjoyed good health, numerous trips visiting many countries around the world. They had a full and blessed life together, rich with wonderful memories, many friends, and loved ones.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Harold Rindal, Sr., his mother Bernice T. (Brunsell) Rindal, a brother Harold Rindal, Jr., and grandson, Joshua Campbell. Richard and Marie’s family consists of two daughters, Leslie Mullin and Lisa Campbell, two sons-in-law, Chris Mullin and Dean Campbell; five grandchildren, Sean Mullin, Kyle Mullin, Tyler Mullin, Joshua Campbell, Heather (Richard) Kurtz; and one great-grandson, Declan Kurtz.

Dick was a mentor to many Horseman and was always ready to share memories of past escapades of parades.
He wrote many articles about the Horsemen and how they bought the ranch. And how it grew over the years.Dick was a mentor to many that joined the Horseman and he helped them tack up properly and wear their uniforms correctly and always shine your boots!
Dick and Marie were always welcoming to new members and wives.
Dick was a wonderful man and a great Horseman.
I’m sure he’s riding his beloved Remy right now….

Dick was a very special mentor and friend. Marie and him welcomed Jenny and I into the Zuhrah Shrine Horse Patrol immediately. He helped get me a horse to learn on and ride. He encouraged both Jenny and I on good horsemen ship. He was an incredible historian for the Horsemen.
Dick and Marie, thank you for coming into our lives we will miss both of you.

Dick’s Friday night dinners after the ride were always memorable. All of the friends and acquaintances would gather to share our last meal. We made very good friends from these get togethers and Karen and I were truly blessed to have Dick and Marie in our lives.
About 20 years ago I had the good fortune to meet Dick.
He talked about the Desert Caballeros horse back ride out In Arizona.Because of Dicks invite I’ve been on the ride for over 16 years
I’m forever grateful that Dick invited me to go with him on the ride. It’s been one of the most exciting experiences of my life
The ride itself was so amazing but even more, all the wonderful people I’ve met and the amazing experiences I’ve had

Dearest Dick.
Sorry to hear you passed away 01.03.23. We have so many good memories with you and Marie. Trough genealogy we got in touch with you in 2008. The same autumn we visited you in Minneapolis. A wonderful meeting. You visited us in Drammen, Norway in 2012 and we had a wonderful trip to Rindal. On this trip you meet several of your Norwegian relatives.
2013 we once more we visited you and had a wonderful May 17th celebrating the Norwegian National Day.. We visited Branson in Missouri and had a lot of experiences.
Thank you for letting us get to know you and Marie. We will never farget you.
John and I had many great memories with both Dick & Marie over the years. They were both treasures and always ready to help with projects at the barn and also while John was Potentate of Zuhrah. Dick organized many Shrine Horsemen and other social events, we had great times at the barn and in their home on different occasions. I cannot ever remember not feeling welcome and loved as a friend by Dick. I thank God that he had become part of our lives
Dick (Buzz) was a special relative. He and my mother, Geneva Rindal Wookey, were cousins. Dick was born when Geneva was thirteen. She had the honor of being his godmother. They remained close until she passed away in 2011.
Dick was a lovely, talented man.
We are better people because Dick (and Marie) were dear friends. As husband and wife, they demonstrated how mutual respect and caring leads to a happy marriage. As friends, they epitomized how to nurture and build life-long relationships – relationships which were personally treasured by our parents and family members. We have so many happy memories of our times together, and when we weren’t together, we valued phone calls that kept us in touch. Dick, we will miss you and know that you are now in the Lord’s arms and with Marie, the love of your life. May Dick’s memory be eternal.
Dick was one of my favorite people! I met Dick who coached me as a young softball player in East Richfield. He was such a positive person who encouraged me and who instilled self-confidence in me as a player and more importantly as a person.
He was the best at keeping in touch with people he cared about and it is evident he cared about so many. I’ll miss him and send my deepest sympathies to the Leslie, Chris, Lisa and family.
There are so many great memories that we have of Dick and Marie. If you said one of their names, the other name just naturally came along. Dick and Marie. They were such gracious people. They welcomed us at every event and always were so interested in what you were saying. They focused in on you and engaged you with eye contact that was genuine.
Dick was always so supportive of Phil and his vast knowledge of Horsemen history that he shared gave Phil a huge appreciation of the unit that Phil became a part of. We talked often about Dick’s remarkable memory. It was encyclopedic. Dick had the ability to not only tell the story, but to make you see the story. We just loved that. We will miss him but we feel so privileged to have known him. Our deepest sympathy to all of his family.
Congratulations to Dick for a wonderful life well lived. He and his fellow masons set an example of virtue and dedication to family and faith only matched by their Ladies such as Marie, Dodie, Patsy, Marilyn and countless others. Tonight we celebrate Dick and Arnie on the 7th anniversary of Arnie’s passing with fond memories and a Viking playoff loss. Much love to all,

Dick was the true definition of a gentleman, son, husband, grandfather, and mentor to all of us fortunate enough to know him. His messages were always simple, noteworthy, and heart felt.
Rest easy Dick for you accomplished so much in your time with all of us.
My fondest memory was Dick and I participating in the flag ceremony together last year Wednesday morning on the ride. Those special memories will be cherished by me the rest of my life. For me, that was one of the highest honors we could have received.
Dick was a gem of a man.
He had the gift of making his new friends feel like old friends and had a genuine interest in all that you were up to. John and I first met both Dick and Marie at the Zuhrah Shrine Horse Ranch. I’ll never forget how that dynamic duo made us feel right at home and helped us get settled in. Dick’s passion for his family, friends, the Horsemen and it’s history was wonderful.
