Candise Mary McCartney

Age 76, passed away peacefully in her home on April 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving husband and children. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Nana), sister, aunt, and friend to so many. She is survived by her loving husband Greg; children Mindy (Michael) Dempsey and Eric (Blair) McCartney; grandchildren, Maylin, Emma, Olivia, Layton and Kensley; siblings Tim (Val) Rettke, Sharman Ecker, and Babette Hufstedler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Spencer and Emma Rettke and brother, Michael Rettke. She grew up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota with her parents and 4 siblings. At the age of 19 she won the crown as Miss Brooklyn Park and went to the Miss Minnesota Pageant. Shortly after, she was presented her first “wings” at the age of 21 to be a Flight Attendant with Northwest Orient Airlines, where she spent her 39 year career. Candy, as we all called her, met her husband Greg during that time and was married at the age of 27. They moved to Burnsville, Minnesota where they raised their 2 children and where she spent the remaining years of her life. Outside of work, she loved to bass fish around the lakes of Minnesota, very very early in the morning. She also loved to entertain in her home, especially pool parties in the summer and Vikings football parties in the fall. She was the “hostess with the mostess”, always prepared for unexpected guests and whipping up big and beautiful spreads of food for all who could attend. She was fiercely loyal to her family and dedicated to her children. She never missed a game, dance competition, school ceremony, or any other events in her children’s lives. Her outgoing and welcoming spirit made her “mom” to many of her children’s friends throughout the years as well. She was equally loved by her Northwest Airlines customers, receiving countless awards and letters of recognition for the service she provided during their trip. She loved the airlines and flying and made many friends along the way until her retirement in 2006. To know Candy was to love her and she will be deeply missed by many. She will be remembered for her kind heart and generous soul with an abundance of social energy that will be remembered forever.
