Gary B. Joyner - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

October 31, 1944 - October 27, 2024

Gary Bruce Joyner was born on Halloween, October 31,1944 and passed away on October 27, 2024, just four days shy of his 80th birthday. Gary was a one-of-a kind man - one of the most giving, loving and funny people anyone could ever know. Over the years he loved spending meaningful time with his friends and family. Gary loved to hunt, skydive, fly in his father’s many Cessnas with him, fish, ride his Harley with his wife Janell and friends, spend time in Arizona and play and sing along with his guitar. He enjoyed the camaraderie and laughs around a warm bon fire. He genuinely cared for his country and the future of his kids and grandkids.

Gary’s laughter was infectious; he made us smile when he smiled with his beautiful blue eyes. He was always there to lend a helping hand or to cheer you up if you were down. He will be felt in our hearts always and so deeply missed by everyone he touched.

HE WAS SO LOVED.

Gary was preceded in passing by his parents, Vi and Ernie; brothers, Ray, Roger and Errol and sisters, Darlene, Delores and Peggy. Gary will be loved beyond measure for all time by those who survive him: his forever love and wife, Janell; his daughters, Tawny (Mark) Bednarchuk and Miki (Rich Wait) Joyner; his step-sons, Christiaan and Andy (Kim) Nooleen and his grandchildren, of whom he was sooo proud, Lexi (Riley) Boedigheimer, Amanda and Jake Bednarchuk and step-grandchildren Tristan and Sienna Nooleen; sister, Char Moll and brother, Larry Joyner.

May you rest in peace knowing how much you are loved and understand the impact you made on so many lives.

If you would like, there will be time at the luncheon and celebration of life to share memories of Gary.

The family with gather at Cowboy Jack’s in Bloomington – 2801 Southtown Dr. – from 2 PM to 4 PM. Please join in this celebration of life to reminiscence about Gary. If you have a guitar and would like to play something, please bring it with you. Gary loved that and the family would love to hear you.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Minneapolis Danish Center (DAC). The Fort Snelling Memorial Rifle Squad or the Coon Rapids Humane Society of MN.

Heaven has taken another Uncle. We will miss you and so enjoyed the many Halloween birthday shenanigans.

You had a heart of gold and I know my dad, Hank, will miss you deeply as well. I will see you on the other side one day Uncle along with our other family members that have passed.

My fondest memory as a young girl was all the horseback riding, snowmobiling and water skiing. Gary and my dad worked hard to get me and my sister up on these long fat red water skis . But they were patient and I loved to ski. Mostly always spending time with family. It’s a Joyner thing ❤️

Chuck’s memory of all the hunting trips are fondly remembered as well.

    Love you Uncle Gary
Your Niece Kim & husband Chuck

Dad, we love you so much. I cannot believe you are gone. I feel like one of the luckiest people in the world to have a dad like you. I was and am still so proud to call you my dad. You taught us so much but most of all, how to be a good person and treat everyone kindly and fair. I’ve never been in this life without you and its not going to be easy. I just know I will always carry you in my heart wherever I go, until I meet you in heaven dad….I love you.

This obituary captures exactly who Gary was – a truly remarkable, one-of-a-kind person. I remember the first time I met him and the last time I saw him. And I thank the universe for every laugh, conversation, and story in between. I hope whoever’s in charge knows we’re short a Gary Joyner in this world.

We’ve known Gary for three short years, but he made such an impact on us. We camped next to he and Janell for three months in AZ. We saw each other every day. Most nights were spent by a campfire. He was always smiling. Always there to lend a helping hand, to whoever needed it. He knew everyone in our park. We will miss him terribly. Our heart goes out to his family. We know how close they were, and how much he loved his family.

  9. Ron & Kathy Nevala says:

Gary was our next door neighbor in Coon Rapids, back in the 1970’s. Good neighbor and friend. We have not seen him and Janell for about 10 years. Last text was last Christmas. He was always a joy to be around. We will miss him, but will always have memories of the good times. Best wishes to Miki and Tawney (cute little girls) and all his family. We are proud to have known him.
