May 31, 1927 - July 6, 2018
Edith (Edie) Leiviska Mord was born Edith Sophia Rein on May 31, 1927 at her home in Felch, Michigan. A daughter of Swedish immigrant parents, John Hermannson Westerholm Rein and Hilda Carolina-Ina Holm Rein, Edie was the youngest of nine children.
Edith was confirmed at the Metropolitan Lutheran Church in Felch, Michigan and graduated from Felch High School. After high school, she worked in Detroit, Michigan until the end of World War II. Following World War II, she attended Northern Michigan University secretarial college. While there, she met and married Richard A. Leiviska at Messiah Lutheran Church on June 10, 1950.
The couple moved to Minneapolis where they attended Lutheran Bible Institute. When Richard was hired as a school teacher in the Twin Cities, the couple settled in Bloomington, MN.
Edie filled her early adult years with family and volunteering. She worked with her church’s girls’ club, pioneer girls, hosted a weekly non-denominational prayer group in her home, led a weekly Bible study at Richview nursing home and brought countless meals to shut ins and those in need. She was a fabulous hostess, opening the doors to her home to many missionaries and missionary students from Bethany Fellowship. In addition, Edie supplied many decorated cakes and coffee breads to social functions. She was also an avid knitter, making beautiful Norwegian sweaters for family and friends.
In 1977, Richard passed away suddenly. In 1978, Edie met and married her second husband, Clifton Mord. They continued to keep the doors of their home open to those in need of lodging or food and served as deacons and elders in their church. During this time, Edie returned to her training as an administrative assistant and worked for many years at Source Financial in Bloomington. Following her retirement in the mid 1990’s, she remained active in her church, Emmaus Lutheran.
Edie went home to be with Jesus on Friday, July 6, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her husband Richard, her second husband, Clifton, and her son Rick. She is survived by her daughter, Faith (Daniel) Johnson of Willmar, MN, son, John (Heather) of Minneapolis, daughter-in-law, Doreen Leiviska, of Apple Valley, step sons, Mike (Marjie) Mord of Golden Valley and Mitch (Barb) Mord of Mound, thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Sov gott, mamma lilla.
