Glen H. Rasmusson - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

December 22, 1951 - October 4, 2014

Glen Hjalmer Rasmusson was born December 22, 1951 to Helen and Hjalmer Rasmusson.  He passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the age of 62.

Growing up in south Minneapolis, Glen participated in Boy Scouts, youth groups at Calvary Lutheran Church and Park Board sports.  He looked forward to family camping trips and going to Grandma's in the summer.  Winters were spent speed skating at Powderhorn Park.  Glen graduated from Central High School in 1969 where he played trumpet in the school band and varsity basketball.

He attended the University of Minnesota before entering the Armed Forces in 1973.  Shortly after his term in the service, he married Darcy Erickson of Minneapolis and began a career in the roofing industry, which he retired from in 2009.  Glen was an active member of Roofers Local 96 Union.

He and Darcy remained in south Minneapolis where they raised three wonderful children.  His wife and family were the light of his life.

Also, during that time, Glen was a two term post Commander at the Richfield American Legion and had continued his involvement there in several other capacities up to the time of his death.  He was an avid sportsman who truly enjoyed all types of hunting and fishing, and loved to share these experiences with family and friends.

Most recently he especially looked forward to the nights his two grandchildren, Landon and Lauren came to sleep over.  Besides his grandchildren, Glen is survived by his mother, Helen; wife of 38 years, Darcy; sons, Joshua (Sarah) and David; daughter, Katie (Ross); sisters, Bonnie (Dan) and Nancy (Randy); brother, Paul (Sandy); five nieces; one nephew; two grand nieces; one grand nephew; many cousins, in-laws and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Hjalmer.

He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know him- YaDo!

I will always remember Glen “McRasmusson” (the nickname Katie and I gave him for always pretending to order hundreds of cheeseburgers, fries, etc. at the McDonald’s drive-thrus) for his sense of humor and also for the kind of “dad” figure I saw him as growing up without one of my own. I pray for comfort during this time of pain and strength for healing for Darcy, Katie, and family.

Always sad to lose someone in the prime of retirement with a good twenty years to enjoy the grand kids and other family members. Condolences to his wife and children…his mom, sisters and brother…and all those who knew him as a jolly-good-fellow.

He was my cousin, just eleven days younger, both of us born too close to Christmas to make our birthday celebrations special.

I remember Glen when the Rasmusson’s would come the the family picnic in Glencoe, MN. We had a great time playing softball, tossing horse shoes, swimming in pool and riding the merry-go-round (human powered). As he got older he stopped coming to the big gathering on the first Sunday in August and the opportunity to catch-up on, “What have you been up to?” passed into history.

Thanks Bonnie for information on the passing of your brother, he had a blessed life but is gone too soon…farewell my cousin Glen.

Glen and Paul were the big brothers I never had….or probably wanted. ;-{) They made me tough – hanging out, playing sports with the bigger/older kids. I could probably be an annoying little kid to have tagging along, but Gen put up with it/me. Glen was a good guy. He will be missed. My condolences to all of you; Helen, Bonnie, Nancy, Paul. You are all in my thoughts and prayers at this time of loss.
