March 18, 1925 - March 6, 2021
Helen E. Carey, age 95, a 71-year resident of Richfield, MN, passed away March 6, 2021, in the company of her loved ones. Just two weeks short of her 96th birthday. Helen was preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Ruth Tracy of Dayton, OH; her husband of 54 years, Patrick J Carey; sons, Kenneth R Carey and Patrick J Carey Jr and daughter-in-law, Patty; her infant son and many siblings from OH and KY. She is survived by son, Michael T. Carey (Pam) and daughter, Theresa Carey-Ryan (Alan Miller); daughter-in-law, Patricia Carey and her grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren.
Helen met Patrick through a WWll program that had people write to servicemen. His name was picked from a bulletin board full of men who were serving. They met and married in 1946 and moved to Patrick's home town of Minneapolis. They soon bought their house in Richfield and raised their family there. Growing up she enjoyed Frank Sinatra on the radio, roller skating, bowling and time at the beach . In her working days she cooked for Edina Public Schools and retired from there and went to work for Eden Prairie Schools as a playground aid. She loved the kids and they adored her. She loved to travel, play bingo and there wasn't a dog within a mile of her house that went without a treat now and then. Nobody could Crappie fish better than she could. A can of corn and a cane pole and she could out fish anybody. She walked everywhere and there was no task at home that was too hard for her to do. She still enjoyed cutting grass and clearing snow well into her 80s. She loved the holidays at her home and loved cooking big meals for everyone to enjoy and enough to take home. She liked seeing people happy and smiling.
Helen will be buried at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a private interment.
Memorials to the Minnesota Humane Society or Donor's Choice.
