Joanne M. Mercier - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

October 22, 1935 - August 1, 2019

Joanne Mae Mercier, (Hedlund), age 83, of Savage, formerly of Richfield. Received her "angel's wings" on August 1, 2019. Survived by husband, Gerald "Jerry" Mercier; daughters Deb (Ron) Peters, Patti Mercier, and Teresa Mercier; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by parents Oliver and Mae (Carlson) Hedlund; brothers David and Charles Hedlund; and sister-in-law Margot Hedlund. Joanne was born in Minneapolis in 1935. As a young girl she spent a year at Sister Kenny Institute as a result of polio. She played the accordion, rode her bike to her beloved Minnehaha Falls, and graduated Roosevelt HS, class of 1954. She married Jerry in 1956. Joanne was the "heart of the home," wherever they traveled. After 22 years as an Air Force wife they moved to Richfield, where she was a member of Woodlake Lutheran Church for 42 years. Joanne worked for the Dept. of Agriculture and the VA. She was proud of her Swedish heritage, loved crafts, traveling and gardening. She was an avid Twins fan and loved her family's annual lake trip up north, watching church online, singing her favorite tunes, and we loved it when she called us her "angels." In her later years she received memory support at Martin Luther Campus and Creekside Clubs.

Blue and yellow were her favorite colors; feel free to wear a little (or wear a lot).

Memorials to Ebenezer Foundation or Alzheimer's Association.
