Julian E. Elvecrog - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

October 31, 1920 - April 7, 2016

Julian E. Elvecrog
"Bud"

Age 95, of Bloomington. Bud was raised on a farm near Appleton, MN and graduated from Appleton High School. In 1942 he moved to California where he worked at an aircraft plant and married Opal Anderson, his wife of 73 years. He served 3 years in the Army Air Force as an airplane mechanic during WWII. He then returned to Minnesota and they settled in the Twin Cities. He was a street car driver for several years and a printer for over 30 years. As the kids were growing up, the family took trips across the United States, camping and visiting national parks. Every summer for decades, he and Opal camped with various family members at the Norway Beach Campground on Cass Lake. They also for many years wintered in Juniper Springs near Ocala, Florida, living in their tiny RV. He was an avid Twins fan and attended almost every opening home game. He was always willing to help with grandchildren and he spent lots of time taking care of them or having fun with them. He loved playing poker, whist and Skip Bo with family and friends and they enjoyed playing with him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was universally well-regarded.

Survived by wife, Opal Elvecrog; children, Eugene (Paula) Elvecrog, Barbara Elvecrog (Gene Miller) and Jim (Kim) Elvecrog; grandchildren, John (Haley) Elvecrog, Mark (Jenny) Elvecrog, Sarah (Brent) Whittington, Emily Miller (Andrew Rinderknecht), Anne Elvecrog and Jane Elvecrog; great-grandchildren, Mia, Jack, Jordan, Luke, Cole, Tess and Norah; and many other relatives and friends.
