Karen Darlene Olson

Age 81, of Blaine, MN. Karen was a beloved mother, grandmother, and longtime resident of her community, passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2023. Karen was born on June 5th, 1941, to parents, John and Marie Jobst, in her hometown of St. Paul, Minnesota. Karen's life was filled with adventures and experiences, including living in Hawaii for a year with her husband, Gerald Allen Olson, who passed away before her, on April 22nd, 1996. Together they had three children: Gerald Olson Jr., Eugene Olson and Michelle Almquist. Sadly, Karen was also preceded in death by her son, Gerald Jr., as well as both of her parents and sister, Clairann (Chuck) Hoffman.

Despite the challenges she faced, Karen remained a pillar of strength for her family. She cherished her surviving children, Gene Olson (Lorie) and Michelle (Todd) Almquist, and her grandchildren, Tryniti (Yerko) Besmalinovic and Jordan Almquist, who were the center of her world. Karen loved nothing more than spending time with them, sharing her passions for flower gardening, fishing, and her great love for giraffes. She also loved to travel and had many adventures. Karen worked for many years as a telephone operator and later as a secretary at United Way, where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and attention to detail. Her work was a source of pride for her, and she made many lasting friendships over the years.

Karen will be deeply missed by her children, her grandchildren, extended family, and many friends. She was a loving and caring person who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and devotion to family will live on through those she leaves behind.

Preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Allen Olson; son, Gerald Olson, Jr.; parents, John and Marie Jobst; and sister, Clairann (Chuck) Hoffman. She will be deeply missed by her children, Gene Olson (Lorie) and Michelle (Todd) Almquist; grandchildren, Tryniti (Yerko) Besmalinovic and Jordan Almquist; and extended family and friends.
