Ronald L. Ercolani, M.D.

October 24, 1946 - November 15, 2018

Ronald Louis Ercolani, M.D.

Ron grew up in Oklahoma City and earned his medical degree at Oklahoma University. He interned in Omaha, Nebraska where he and Vicky were married in 1972. They moved to San Francisco for his pathology residency and he also earned a fellowship in emergency medicine there. After moving to Minnesota, Ron completed a Masters Degree of Public Health specializing in occupational health and epidemiology at Medical College of Wisconsin after which he stated he would never take another exam! Ron’s work included a residential alcohol treatment center, a private hospital emergency department, Federal Aviation Administration pilot physician, family practice, and finally occupational medicine. He retired at age sixty. In 1999 and 2000 Ron and Vicky traveled to Guatemala to bring home their beautiful daughters Katie and Carmen. When Ron retired he fancied himself a teacher and helped the girls at home with online school for six years. Ron was very proud of their home in Minneapolis and took excellent care of the house and yard. Ron had so many interests that some friends called him a Renaissance man. He took piano lessons as a child and even played the organ at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. As an adult he was a huge fan of classical music especially piano concertos, Brahms, and Handel’s Messiah. Becoming a private pilot was a dream come true and flying became his favorite hobby. Ron jogged religiously completing one marathon and numerous 10k races. He succeeded in remodeling the basement into a family/TV room and master bath. He was always observant of the natural world, traveled to so many national parks, and ventured on numerous strenuous hikes. Ron also enjoyed international travel most recently to Costa Rica, Mexico, and Italy. In retirement gardening became his summer passion and jigsaw puzzles his winter obsession. Ron was smart, funny, hard-working, and strong. He was a wonderful, faithful, and helpful husband and confidant and a gentle father who spoiled his children. Survived by wife, Vicky Ercolani; daughters, Kathryn Ercolani and Carmen Ercolani; siblings, Joe (Anne) Ercolani, Karen (Robert) Corff and Maria Jean Ercolani (Debbie Pienert); sister-in-law, Holly Sampson (Dale Lewis); nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Lou and Kay Ercolani; and infant brother, Stephen Ercolani.
