Russell J. Kallstrom, age 89, of Bloomington. A veteran of WWII, he served as a medic in the Navy and later the Marine Corps. He participated in the Battle of Okinawa and was part of the first rescue mission in Nagasaki, Japan after the atom bomb had been dropped days earlier. He was a city assessor for the City of Minneapolis, retiring in 1986 after 44 years of service including his time with the Minneapolis Park Board.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thure and Alice Kallstrom, and his first wife, Joyce Kallstrom, and second wife, Betty Kallstrom. He is survived by children, Debra (Terry) Muhleka, Tom (Margee), Todd (Cheryl), and Chris (Dione); grandchildren, Sean, T.J., Lisa, Eric, Kevin, Molly, Megan, Tanya, and Gibson; 5 great-grandchldren; sister, Joan Kinde; and step-children, Rebecca Waterson, Daniel and Ryan Westerberg.
