Wayne A. Danielson - Morris Nilsen Funeral Chapel

February 21, 1942 - August 10, 2024

Wayne A. Danielson, age 82, of Richfield, passed away on August 10, 2024, at The Moments memory care in Lakeville, MN.

Wayne grew up in Minneapolis until the family home was moved to Richfield to make room for Highway 62 Crosstown. Wayne graduated from Richfield High School in 1960 and earned his B.S. and M.S. in teaching from the University of MN.

Wayne spent 19 years as a biology teacher at Richfield High School, where he also coached tennis and cross country. He then spent 28 years as a realtor, starting with Coldwell Banker and for the longest time with Edina Realty. He loved the outdoors and spending time hiking on the North Shore and in Colorado; and camping and fishing in the Boundary Waters. He also loved athletic endeavors: playing tennis, basketball, golf, swimming, biking, skiing, playing pond hockey, etc.

Wayne spent his life serving the Lord. He taught Sunday School for many ages but in later years Senior High and young adults (where he met Julie), was a counselor at Camp Shamineau, served on the worship commission, coached basketball, told Bible stories for Vacation Bible Camp, and served on many mission teams.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; sons, Cameron and Chad (Tiffany) Danielson; grandchildren, Jordyn (Austin) Chiavelli, and Jasmyn, Elijah & Calvin Danielson; great-grandchildren, Axel and Freya; sister, Lois Sladick and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvar and Viola (Sundgren) Danielson; and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Danielson.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Moments and MN Hospice for the loving care for Wayne over the last forty months.

In lieu of memorials, donations may be directed to the First Evangelical Free Church or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Wayne was a mentor, role model and friend to me most of my life. He coached me on my youth basketball team and we played together on our church men’s team. Any sport Wayne played, he excelled. Tennis, basketball, softball, golf and to my knowledge, he never had a lesson or played organized sports growing up. His smile was absolutely contagious and he was Christian role model to me and many others. He was a best friend to my brother, Tom and I was privileged to call him friend. An educator and teacher to many at Richfield High School and a successful realtor with Edina Realty. His specialty was selling homes in Richfield and was dubbed by Tom as “king of the $100,000 home” for the dozens he sold in that community. I’m not ashamed to say I loved Wayne.

The Danielsons moved to our block when their home was relocated for hwy 62 construction. Didn’t know him personally, but he was always friendly when he’d drive by us kids playing in the street. Later, I’d see him in the halls at RHS. He must of really loved being there. He would talk to the students as they passed between classes. He was always upbeat and friendly. I am happy to hear he had a great life. Obviously, a great man.
